The Cocker Spaniel, often referred to as the American Cocker Spaniel, originally derived from careful
breeding of the English Cocker Spaniels that were brought to the United States. The American
Cocker Spaniel has a smaller stature than the English Cocker Spaniel and different conformation. The name "Cocker"
originated from the woodcock, a game bird spaniels flush. Today, the Cocker Spaniel serves primarily as a companion
and show dog. Their hunting instincts remain but are not utilized. The can also be used for tracking, retrieving, agility
and work as service dogs.
